7 Reasons to Stay at The Lodge at Whitefish Lake
Located 1.3 miles from downtown Whitefish, Montana, Grouse Mountain Lodge is a large family-friendly, lodge-style resort.
Grouse Mountain Lodge provides convenient accommodations for your Glacier National Park itinerary or for any other local Montana adventure.
Due in part to the fact that it is an older property, the nightly room rates here are much more affordable than other resort hotels in the area.
This is a huge perk if you are traveling on a budget, or don’t want to pay outrageous nightly rates.
The rustic-chic accommodations are accompanied by an onsite restaurant, gift shop, and conference center.
Also, along with a 24-hour fitness center, Grouse Mountain Lodge is home to an indoor swimming pool and sauna and a giant outdoor hot tub.
1. Classic Mountain Lodge Experience
When you’re lucky enough to be visiting Montana, there’s nothing better than staying at a hotel that features the classic, rustic-chic decor that makes Montana feel like Montana.
The welcoming ambiance at Grouse Mountain Lodge begins as you pull up to the front doors and are greeted by its log-style exterior and earth-tone-colored interior.
The huge rustic chandeliers, tile floors, stone fireplace, and giant leather furniture pieces in the lobby create a cozy, at-home feel.
With exposed beams, gigantic decks, and beautiful landscaping, the immediate charm you’ll feel outweighs the lack of modern, contemporary design.
2. Close Proximity to Glacier National Park
Towering mountains, epic hikes, and cascading waterfalls….
One can’t mention the reasons to stay at Grouse Mountain Lodge without taking note of its intimately close proximity to one of the world’s most beautiful National Parks.
Located only 27 miles from the West Entrance, The Lodge is a popular home base for those looking to drive the famous Going-to-the-Sun Road or experience Glacier National Park’s other natural wonders.
Be sure to check out the many opportunities for hiking, biking, camping, whitewater rafting, and horseback riding, within the park.
3. Resort Town Atmosphere
Surrounded by the Rocky Mountains, Whitefish, Montana is a quintessential resort town.
Known for its year-round appeal, popular Whitefish activities include skiing and snowboarding in the winter, as well as backpacking and hiking, and a plethora of water activities on Whitefish Lake in the summer.
Grouse Mountain Lodge has one of the most convenient locations of any of the hotels in Whitefish as it’s located only a few minutes from the locally owned shops and galleries of downtown.
Likewise, the Lodge is only 2.2 miles from Whitefish Lake!
This pristine glacial lake is surrounded by mountains and provides for incredible views, as well as direct access to boating, swimming, and watersports.

4. Great Standard Amenities
Grouse Mountain Lodge has no shortage of standard amenities to enjoy including an indoor pool and sauna, outdoor hot tub, workout facility, sitting areas, and a fireplace in the lobby.
The outdoor patio was especially inviting with its padded, comfy chair and views of the Whitefish Lake Golf Course.
The lodge also features a walk-up counter serving grab-n-go breakfast items (for a cost), and an onsite restaurant and bar called Logan’s Bar & Grill.
Additional planning tip: Grouse Mountain does not offer complimentary breakfast, nor do they have a kiddie pool for small children. This may be a downside for some.
A plus, however, is that the Lodge offers shuttle service to and from Kalispell airport. Shuttle service requires a 48-hour advanced reservation. ($5 per Adult / $2.50 per child.)
6. Plenty of Dining Options
As mentioned above, Logan’s Bar & Grill is the onsite Grouse Mountain Lodge restaurant.
With a fantastic menu, daily Happy Hour from 4 PM – 6 PM, and nightly events including live music, Logan’s is a popular choice for classic Montana cuisine.
Inspired by local ingredients, entrees at Logan’s Bar & Grill include Black Cod, Beef Tenderloin, and Elk Bolognese.
When staying for multiple nights, however, be sure to venture off of the resort to experience the other best restaurants in Whitefish.
Committed to supporting the community, most restaurants in Whitefish feature fresh, local ingredients for almost everything on their menu.
In Whitefish, you can find American, Italian, French, Mexican, and Japanese cuisine, as well as several brewpubs and bars & grills.
Additional planning tip: The availability of having plenty of dining options is one of the biggest perks of staying outside of Glacier National Park in a town like Whitefish.
6. Large Rooms & Great Customer Service
Grouse Mountain Lodge features standard rooms, golf view rooms, corner suites, and loft suites.
All of the accommodations here are both spacious and immaculately clean.
Our family of five comfortably fit into a standard room that had 2 queen beds, and an additional rollaway.
Another thing we appreciate is that Grouse Mountain Lodge has friendly and accommodating staff.
Not only were we always greeted with a smile, but the staff was quick to answer questions and give recommendations regarding the area.
We felt well taken care of there.
